Dublin Port Greenway

Welcome to the new Dublin Port Tolka Estuary Greenway, a dedicated cycle and pedestrian route along the Northern perimeter of the Port overlooking the Tolka Estuary. The Greenway is a celebration of an area of the Port that has never been accessed by the public before and offers people an exciting new destination to visit.

Getting to the Greenway

The main cycling and pedestrian access to the Greenway is via EastPoint Business Park.

The nearest public transport connections are the N4 bus on the Alfie Byrne Road and the Clontarf DART.

Refreshments with Circle K Coffee, a variety of food options, as well as ATM, showers, and toilet facilities, are available at the Circle K Dublin Port service station accessible midway through the route near Discovery Point 2.

Viewing Points of the Greenway

The route includes three discovery points, where the public can rest up after a walk, run or cycle and reward themselves with magnificent never-before-seen views of Dublin Bay and Clontarf.

A highlight for Dubliners and tourists alike are interpretative panels at each discovery point that explore Dublin’s rich history as a port city. Along with getting some exercise, visitors can learn something new about our historic city.

The Greenway is equipped with a special lighting system to consider wildlife and will also have call points along the route.

Reasons to Visit

The Greenway is ideal for the whole family. Whether it’s a cycle with the children, a leisurely stroll or a relaxing picnic in the sun, this Dublin amenity is sure to delight kids and grown-ups alike. Additionally, it is a great place to walk the dogs, with plenty of room for our four-legged friends to enjoy the sights and smells.

This new destination is also perfect for nature lovers. Visitors can hear calls of a wide variety of migratory birds that call the Port home throughout the year. This includes Brent Geese, Bar-Tailed Godwits, Common Terns and the even rarer Arctic Terns, who have been flying back and forth from the Port to Antarctica for over two decades now.

As well as seeing these animals in this new habitat, the Greenway boasts an enviable collection of mature Pine, Willow and Sycamore trees that are preserved along the route. In addition to these, Dublin Port Company has planted over 200 large trees and over 5,000 smaller woodland trees and native wildflowers that have created new shelter and nesting sites for birdlife and insects.

Finally, this new route offers the public a chance to kick off their holiday in an active way and use the Greenway to catch a ferry to Holyhead.

About the Dublin Port Tolka Estuary Greenway

The first section of the Greenway stretches from the Port’s boundary with Eastpoint Business Park to the Irish Ferries and Stena Line terminals. It was delivered in 2024 by the Dublin Port Heritage & Special Projects and Capital Projects teams, partnering with Darmody Architecture; TTT, Storyline and Bright, ROD Consulting Engineers, Austen Associates Landscapes, Cundall and Wills Brothers Ltd and with the support of the residents from Clontarf.

The second section, which will be completed in 2026, will bring the route to the most Eastern point of Dublin Port overlooking a brand new 800-metre linear park.

The Greenway forms part of Fáilte Ireland’s Dublin Coastal Trail which runs from Skerries in the north to Killiney in the south. The trail, which highlights Dublin’s majestic coastline, is dotted with adventures and now proudly includes this new addition. This is a must see for tourists coming to Dublin with much to offer those unfamiliar with our great city.
